As the parents of four (YIKES!) teenagers (ages 19, 17, 15, and 13), my wife and I have had many years of joyous celebration at Christmas time. Interestingly, we’ve done this without ever “doing” Santa Claus. In other words, we have never pretended with our children that the gifts under the tree and the goodies in their stockings were the result of the magical efforts of a jolly fat-man.
Don’t get me wrong, we don’t shun Santa. As the above implies, we embrace most of the traditions surrounding Christmas. We have a Christmas tree with presents underneath. We decorate the house inside and out with wreaths, bows, Nativity scenes, and the like. We have our “stockings hung by the chimney with care.” We send and receive Christmas cards (one of our best efforts from a few years ago is below), and so on. We’ve taught our children that some families, even Christian families, use the Santa Claus myth as a means of enhancing the joy and fun of the Christmas season.

Of
course, we work hard at keeping Christ the center of Christmas. We’ve cautioned
our children that “traditions” often can distract us from the profound Truth
that Christmas presents. In addition, those who hate the real meaning and
message of Christmas will go to great lengths to keep us from this Truth.
Thus, as is almost always the case, at this time of year, we
must endure again the “War on Christmas.” Why wage a “war on Christmas?” What’s
so scary about Christmas? Is the birth of Jesus really that scary? Yes, it is.
In fact, whether we would admit it or not, each of us, whether privately or
publicly, at one time or another, has waged a “war on Christmas.”
Sometimes it’s as subtle as Clark Griswold at the
end of the film Christmas
Vacation. While staring at what he thinks is the Christmas star, with the
typical Hollywood drivel, Clark declares “That’s all that matters tonight. It’s
not bonuses or gifts or turkeys or trees. You see, kids, it means something
different to everybody; now I know what it means to me.” The moment is supposed
to warm our hearts, but instead it’s just another lie about Christmas.
We lie about Christmas, because the real meaning and message
of Christmas makes us confront a frightening truth. Christmas means one thing
and one thing only. As C.S. Lewis put it, Christmas is the story of how the
rightful king has landed. When Jesus stood before Pilate, just prior to going
to his execution, the Roman governor asked Him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
After some discussion Pilate concluded to Jesus, “You are a king, then!” Jesus
answered him, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I
was born, and for this I came into the world…”
Of course, He was not just any king. He was a king with a
holy mission. He was a king who was born to die. “Amazing love, how
can it be, that you my King would die for me?” Jesus was, and is, our Savior
King. Because, the “frightening truth” is that we are all in desperate need of
salvation. As author Charles Sell put it,
If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior.
In
Christian circles, it
is often told that, early
in the twentieth century, The Times
(UK) either invited essays on, or ran a piece entitled, “What’s wrong with the
world?” Noted theologian, author, and apologist G.K. Chesterton replied,
“Dear Sir,
I am.
Yours, G.K. Chesterton.”
As
Chesterton implies, none of us is “innocent.” We have all gone our own way and
done our own thing with disastrous results. In spite of the foolish notion
often portrayed by some, no nation, no culture, no individual is “basically
good.” This world is filled with evil, and at one time or another, we’ve all
had a hand in it. As the prophet Isaiah puts it, “We all, like sheep,
have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid
on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah wasn’t merely painting a picture of sinful humanity.
The above Scripture was a prophecy of the coming Messiah. Ultimately the world
doesn’t have a poverty problem, or a crime problem, or a sexual problem, or a virus problem, or a
terrorism problem, or even (and of course) a climate problem. The world has a
sin problem, and Jesus is the answer.
The most quoted portion of the Bible, John 3:16 declares,
“For God so loved the world that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have
eternal life.” (Emphasis mine.) Less well known is the verse immediately
following. John 3:17 says, “For God did not send His Son into the world to
condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
Those wanting us to donate blood or organs do so by
imploring us to “Give the gift of life.” With Christmas, God gave “the gift of
life” as it has never before been given. How many dying individuals would say
no to a lifesaving medical procedure made possible through the efforts or generosity
of another? Yet how many reject the amazing gift of everlasting life that God offers
through Jesus?
There’s no escaping this all important eternal truth: we are
all in dire need of a Savior. Your life can be filled with treasures and
pleasures, but if you ignore Jesus and His message, you will regret it for
eternity. Your life can be riddled with poverty, sickness, and strife, yet if
you repent and believe in Christ, the magnificent riches of eternal life await
you. And whether rich or poor, sick or well, imprisoned or free, in good times
or bad, we all need the gift that was given on that first Christmas. Merry
Christmas!

Last week, in a coordinated effort, Joe Biden’s White House issued a foolishly disturbing message that he seems certain to repeat today. On December 16, Biden declared,
Due to the steps we’ve taken, Omicron has not yet spread as fast as it would’ve otherwise done and as is happening in Europe. But it’s here now, and it’s spreading, and it’s going to increase.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm.
The next day, White House
COVID response coordinator Jeff Zients repeated a very similar message,
stating,
We are intent on not letting omicron disrupt work and school for the vaccinated. You’ve done the right thing, and we will get through this. For the unvaccinated, you’re looking at a winter of severe illness and death for yourselves, your families and the hospitals you may soon overwhelm.
In other words, on this latest iteration of the Wuhan Virus, democrats continue to do the only thing they’ve done well the past 20 months: promote fear and falsehoods. Whether the origins of the virus, masks (on near countless occasions), lockdowns, testing, vaccines, mandates, and so on, democrats—and those like-minded—have been wrong more than Moses was right. Democrats’ lies and inaccuracies on most all things COVID-related are easy to demonstrate when one actually looks at the data—something to which most Democrats seem oblivious.
Likewise, on the Omicron variant of the Wuhan Virus, there’s nothing in the data that even hints at a “winter of severe illness and death.” Nowhere in the world is Omicron raging to the point that would make Biden’s doomsday statement sound even remotely reasonable. Barely two weeks ago, the World Health Organization said that Omicron had yet to kill a single person.
About a week ago, the BBC reported that UK had
recorded its first death of a patient “with the Omicron coronavirus variant.”
Note again we have the designation of someone dying “with” the Wuhan Virus. The
same BBC article also reported,
On Monday, the UKHSA confirmed 10 people had been admitted to hospital in England with the Omicron variant.
Their ages ranged from 18 to 85 years old and the majority had received two doses of a Covid vaccination, the agency said.
So not only are most of the hospitalized in these cases “vaccinated,” but most have received multiple doses! (And, as has often been the case in the U.S., the BBC failed to note if any of those hospitalized had any underlying conditions which contributed to their hospitalization.) Thus again we see the data contradict Democrats’ Wuhan Virus narratives.
According to Reuters (and other outlets) it was just yesterday that the U.S. recorded its first death “related to the Omicron COVID-19 variant.” So when Biden and his ilk made their dire predictions several days ago, there was not a single recorded death in the U.S. due to—or even “related to”—the Omicron variant. Yet somehow Biden and his people believe that enough Americans are going to buy their latest round of Wuhan Virus fearmongering.
They believe this even after Vice President Harris told America that “We didn’t see Delta coming,” and “We didn’t see Omicron coming.” Harris’s statement is even more damning when one recalls that, in January of this year, Biden’s then nominee for Surgeon General (who now holds the office) Vivek Murthy told ABC News, “The virus is basically telling us that it’s going to continue to change and we’ve got to be ready for it.” (Murthy also served as Co-Chair of the COVID-19 Advisory Board.)
So the Biden Administration failed to discern the coming of either the Delta or Omicron variants—in spite of being warned by their own to look for such—but want us to believe they are prescient when it comes to Omicron and the unvaccinated. Again, no one should be surprised that Democrats lie, but it is important to remind the world when they do so. Note: I’m predicting a lie. Biden’s predicting a “winter of severe illness and death” from Omicron for the unvaccinated. Let’s take a look in April and see who was right.

Some of the healthiest people on the planet are being managed by some of the dumbest people on Earth. According to Vice, the NFL is now a “COVID superspreader.” With the playoffs beginning in almost exactly one month, there are—as of this writing (the list has been growing daily)—nearly 100 (out of approximately 1700) players on the NFL’s COVID-19 list.
Tellingly, Vice
notes that “Sixty-five players have
tested positive in the last two days,
including a single-day record on Monday of 37 new cases.” So
again we have an “outbreak” among those who’ve merely “tested
positive” for the Wuhan Virus. The Vice
article goes on to mention how the NBA and the NHL are also dealing with “outbreaks”
of positive Wuhan Virus tests.
Without one mention of a
player who’s actually sick, seven times the Vice
piece uses the phrase “tested positive” or a close derivative. Several more
times Wuhan Virus “test” or “testing” is mentioned. No mention of
hospitalizations, no mention of deaths, just “tests.” What’s more, over
94% of NFL players are “vaccinated” (that definition keeps
changing). Additionally, 97% of the NBA is “vaccinated”—with over 60% having
received their “booster dose”—and reportedly
only four NHL players remain “unvaccinated.”
Thus, the “outbreak” of positive tests in U.S. professional sports has occurred in spite of what is certainly some off the highest rates of vaccination of any large group of people the world over. Also, these “outbreaks” complete contradict the notion—recently spouted by Joe Biden himself and enforced by Twitter censors—that the vaccinated “do not spread the disease to anybody else.”
Nevertheless, the NFL is
doubling down on its anti-science, data-ignorant policies. According
to ABC News, “The NFL is requiring players, coaches and other
team personnel to receive a COVID-19 booster by Dec. 27.” The NFL has larger
rosters, and much more human-to-human contact than either the NBA or the NHL,
yet in nearly two seasons now in the COVID-era, the NFL has reported virtually
zero serious illnesses due to the Wuhan Virus.
At the end of last season—which was played when almost no
one was vaccinated—the NFL, in conjunction with the CDC, revealed
that there was zero evidence of “on-field transmission” of the Wuhan
Virus. Additionally, in spite of rampant testing, there were few positive tests
amongst NFL personnel, and again, virtually no one got seriously ill from the
Wuhan Virus. In spite of this, the NFL got completely on board the Wuhan Virus
vaccine train. And look what it got them! It seems the NFL is still
refusing to believe its own data.
The AP reports
that, because of “rising coronavirus numbers around the league,” the NBA may
return to daily testing for players and coaches. When are these fools going to
learn that the Wuhan Virus is simply going
to do what viruses do? And no amount of testing and other foolish
“protocols” is going to change this.
When are these organizations going to stop pretending that
the young and healthy have ever been in any serious danger from the Wuhan
Virus? Much of the rest of the U.S.—at least those of us on “team reality”—have
long understood what this virus really is, and who’s at risk from it.
Cancelling games, pulling players, more widespread testing, and the like is
nothing more than further pandemic theatre. If there are more game cancellations
and loss of time for players with “positive tests,” it won’t be due to another
“outbreak” of the Wuhan Virus, but it will be due to yet another foolish
reaction to the Wuhan Virus.
Perhaps these league executives are not as dumb as I think
they are. Like the Democrat Party, perhaps they have decided to continue to
play politics with this virus, using it as a means to control others. Perhaps
American professional sports owners and executives have decided that such
tactics will aid and abet the Democrat Party. Whatever the case, “team
reality”—as much as it exists within the players associations—needs to stand up
to this evil.
