Obama’s Big Fat Greek Convention

It seems that “The One we’ve been waiting for” has decided to elevate himself to mythical status. Several reports have shown that Obama’s speech at Invesco Field (home of the Denver Broncos) on Thursday will occur from an “elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.”

Reuters reports that Obama “will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor.” I wonder if, as he rises, he will be carrying his speech on stone tablets.

Fox News is reporting that the structure “resembles the ancient Greek temple of the goddess Athena.” So perhaps Obama will rise wearing a golden helmet and carrying a spear, which is how the Greek goddess Athena is usually depicted. However, given the anti-war sentiment that permeates the modern Democratic Party, this will probably not happen.

This elaborate set-up is already drawing much fire from the McCain campaign. McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds told Fox News, “It’s an interesting choice — certainly not the type of town-hall meeting John McCain has participated in across the country. I wouldn’t see that fitting with our campaign, but then again our candidate doesn’t enjoy the spotlight of fame quite like Obama.”

It is a bit of irony that the Obama camp would stage such a spectacle so recently after having gone after McCain for being an “elitist” who can’t remember how many houses he owns. I think this will further fuel the “Anointed One/Messiah” status that has plagued Obama and his followers thus far in the campaign.

Keep your eyes on the crowd on Thursday evening. Those who don’t swoon and faint may get to witness “Obamanus” make history.
